The Redline Featured on Spectrum News 1 with Lisa Ling
The Redline Hotel Group was recently featured on Spectrum News 1 in a story by journalist Lisa Ling, exploring the Black history of Venice Beach and the people whose contributions have too often been left out of its story.
Few know Venice Beach was shaped in part by Arthur Reese and Irving Tabor, two Black collaborators handpicked by Venice Beach visionary Abbot Kinney himself. Their work helped shape the Venice we know today, yet their stories have remained largely outside the history most people know about the neighborhood.
As the only Black-owned beachfront hotel in Venice Beach, The Redline was created to give these stories a place within the community they helped build, while continuing that legacy through Black ownership and hospitality today.
As Lisa Ling says in the Spectrum News 1 feature:
“Black families helped build Venice, but their stories were lost. The Redline is changing that, not by preserving history, but by giving it a place to stay.”
